Dáithí celebrates first anniversary of new law as number of organ donors hit record level
Dáithí Mac Gabhann is celebrating the first anniversary of new legislation on organ donation in NI which has seen the number of donors soar to a record level.
A total of 64 donations saved lives in 2023/24 which is the highest number of organ donations here so far up from 59 in the previous year.
The Organ and Tissue Donation (Deemed Consent) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, known as ‘Dáithí’s Law’ in recognition of seven-year-old, came into effect on June 1, 2023 and requires people to opt out of being a donor as opposed to opting in. Read More
