Children’s Heartbeat Trust has been working since 1984 to provide practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people living with heart disease and their families. CHT offer youth and family support services, fund research and campaign for the voice of children, young people and their families to be at the heart of all congenital cardiac services.
Institute of Transplantation, Freeman Newcastle
The Freeman Hospital’s Cardiopulmonary Transplant Service was established over 20 years ago. We performed our first heart transplant in 1985 and our first lung transplant in 1987. We have since performed almost 800 heart transplants, including over 140 in children, and over 600 lung or heart and lung transplants.
Share Your Wishes are a group of transplant recipients, parents of children who have had transplants or waiting for transplants, and donor families. SYW want to encourage everyone to share their organ donation wishes. SYW are not a charity – we are just a group of like minded people who want to make a difference to encourage people to be organ donors and offer support too. SYW support all transplant charities, and groups in their work to promote organ donation.
LHM are a national UK charity offering help to anyone affected by the diagnosis of single ventricle heart condition. From initial antenatal diagnosis, through treatments and into life at home, the charity works with children, young adults and families to reduce the isolation, fear and lack of understanding created when a child is diagnosed as having half a working heart.
The PHA was established in 2009 under a major reform of health structures in Northern Ireland. The PHA are a multi-disciplinary, multi-professional body with a strong regional and local presence. The PHA was set up to provide a renewed and enhanced focus on public health and wellbeing by bringing together a wide range of public health functions under one organisation. The purpose of the PHA is to protect and improve the health and social well-being of our population and reduce health inequalities through strong partnerships with individuals, communities and other key public, private and voluntary organisations.
The Committee was established to advise and assist the Minister on matters within his responsibility. The Committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department for Health and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation.
