We welcome the recent announcement from Minister Swann regarding the consultation for soft opt-out organ donation (the consultation has now closed).
Our campaign has worked very hard the past few years to help achieve this, as well as generally spreading awareness of the benefits of Organ Donation.
To date we have confirmed support for soft opt out from:
✅ Sinn Féin
✅ Green Party
🤷♂️ DUP (Many members of the DUP are supportive of soft opt out)
Party leaders signed and sent a letter in support of the introduction of soft opt out:
🖊 Arlene Foster
✉️ Michelle O’Neill
📨 Steve Aiken
📜 Colm Eastwood
📄 Naomi Long
📩 Clare Bailey
📃 Gerry Carroll
🖋 Jim Allister
We managed to unite all 11 local councils in passing a motion, calling on the introduction of soft opt legislation:
✅ Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council
✅ Ards and North Down Borough Council
✅ Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council
✅ Belfast City Council
✅ Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

✅ Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council
✅ Mid and East Antrim Borough Council
Mid Ulster District Council – Dungannon
✅ Newry, Mourne and Down District Council
🙏🏼 We’ve had a commitment from Minister of Health, Robin Swann, to meet with our campaign.
We have met with the Chair of the Health Committee, Colm Gildernew, as well as Deputy Chair, Pam Cameron.
The vast majority of politicians strongly agree! 🙋🏻♂️🙋🏾🙋♀️
70% of the population agree with soft opt out organ donation in a survey conducted by the BHFNI. ✅
